Exclusive: Van de Beek takes Sancho & Varane to Ikea for bench cushions

When you want to know about sitting on your a*se, you go to an expert

Manchester United misfit Donny Van de Beek has been praised by manager Ole Solskjaer for his attitude in helping the new signings settle into life at Old Trafford.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

When speaking to local media, Solskjaer referred to Van de Beek as “extremely helpful” in how he has dealt with the new recruits, as well as “very insightful” in terms of the wisdom he has chosen to pass onto both Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

“Donny has spent a lot of time sitting on the bench since he joined the club, which is what I expect both Jadon and Raphael to be doing. The way I like to operate as a manager is to bring in exceptional talent, but never give them any minutes on the pitch.” Ole told a journalist.

“The fact Donny went out of his way to drive them all to IKEA and help them pick out the cushion which offers the most comfort and is the best value for money, speaks volumes about his character and the role he has within the squad.

“IKEA is no easy journey as it’s a good 10 miles away from the ground, but he volunteered to take them on the trip after training and let them know which cushion has served his bum the best over the past year or so, which didn’t need any upholstery or to be replaced after a few weeks of constant sitting.”

Paddy Power News was lucky enough to speak to United teammate, Victor Lindelof, who was also in IKEA at the time.

“It’s fantastic to see the boys spending their money in such a wonderful establishment. I bring my wife here most days for the famous meatballs.”

IKEA flags flutter outside the newly opened IKEA store near Zagreb on August 21, 2014. Swedish furniture giant IKEA opened its first store in the territory of the former Yugoslavia near Croatia’s capital Zagreb, the first step towards expanding on the Balkans market. With a surface of some 38,000 square meters (409,000 square feet), the store is one of the company’s biggest in the world and can accommodate 5,000 visitors at the same time. Elsewhere within Old Trafford, rumours are circulating around the training ground that Solskjaer could be involved in a sinister dare with a handful of senior club executives, to see how long he can continue to put Fred in the starting line-up before the world learns the Brazilian isn’t actually a professional footballer.

It is understood that this type of behaviour is very common at the top level, with former Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, managing to get away with using Igors Stepanovs for four years before being rumbled.
