Messi admits he was watching The Notebook before press conference

It's a real tearjerker tbf

The world’s most famous footballer, Lionel Messi, has admitted the tears he shed during his recent emotional press conference were not due to leaving the club he loves, but in fact because he had been watching The Notebook moments before going on camera and speaking to the media.

Understood to be distraught at the idea of moving away from the club he has been with since he was a child, the Argentinian wizard quickly set the record straight by confirming it was the heart-breaking love story of Noah and Alli which turned him into a blubbering mess, and not his Barcelona departure.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

“Have you ever seen The Notebook? 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.8 out of 10 on IMDB doesn’t do it justice at all. You have to see it to fully understand how absolutely devastating it is,” he said.

“If I’m honest, that press conference was one big blur, as I can’t really remember a single question I was asked by the media, or a single answer I gave. The only thing on my mind was how beautiful, yet tragic, that movie was. Every time I think about it I well up.

“That poor young girl was put in such a difficult position, and Noah was such a gentleman. But the end… wow. The end has literally broken my heart. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same again having seen it.

“A true masterpiece.”

When asked by Paddy Power News about his future, Messi had this to say.

“I’m off to PSG where I’ll earn €25m per year, so I’m more than happy. Barcelona has been going down the s*itter for a long time now, so I’m fine to be moving on.”

Elsewhere in the world of romance, Football League referee, Keith Stroud is understood to be in hot water following a romantic exchange with a ball.

Having been caught on camera blowing a kiss to the match ball ahead of Fulham vs Middlesbrough last week, Stroud has not only been asked to explain his actions by senior members of the FA, but also his wife, who took to social media moments after the incident took place.

“Me and the kids are fine. I’ve always known I wasn’t good enough for Keith as he always preferred a round shape. He once asked me to wear a white onesie with Mitre written on it in black marker pen.

“I should have seen the signs.”
