Gareth Southgate has announced England’s provisional 33-man squad for this summer’s European Championship after a last-minute change of heart.
The Three Lions boss was due to confirm his 26-man roster for the footie fiesta but opted for a longlist due to fitness concerns and players being involved in the Champions League and Europa League finals.
Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has made the initial cut after a will-he-won’t-he saga while there are fresh call-ups for Ben Godfrey of Everton and Brighton’s Ben White. Burnley keeper Nick Pope has missed out due to injury so Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale is the fourth man between the sticks. The likes of Danny Ings, James Maddison, Patrick Bamford and Eric Dier have all missed out.
The final squad will be confirmed on June 1. England then have friendlies against Austria and Romania to sharpen their tactics before their opener against Croatia at Wembley on Sunday June 13.
