Ahead of the Carabao Cup final this weekend, Tottenham Hotspur have brightened the mood of the footballing world by offering a young Spurs fan the chance to be a mascot and walk out onto the pitch with the players.
29-year-old schoolboy, Ryan Mason, who also happens to be the interim head coach of the club, will be given the chance to fulfil a long-term ambition and is said to be “super excited” about it.
“I can’t wait to hold Harry Kane’s hand and walk out onto that Wembley turf – all my mates will be so jealous,” said a giddy Ryan.
“Sometimes I play FIFA as Man City too, so to be in a tunnel with Sterling and De Bruyne will be lit AF. I might take a ball and see if I can get them to sign it.”
It is understood that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, whilst looking for a bit of good publicity following a week of turmoil, reached out to Ryan’s parents to invite the boy along to Wembley, where he will be involved in a meet and greet and given time to get a few photos with his favourite players.
“It was such a lovely call to receive from a man we f*cking hated 48 hours ago,” said Ryan’s mum, Janet.
“The minute I got off the phone to Mr Levy, I called Ryan to tell him the great news. He was actually at the training ground with Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris working on defending corners, but he still screamed with excitement and ran home.
“This is a real dream come true type of moment for my little boy, I am just so happy for him.”
Paddy Power News spoke to Ryan during the pre-match press conference to ask how he plans to balance his managerial duties and mascot commitments.
“Well, what I’m going to do is put on a suit and tie to pick my starting XI and deliver a team-talk before the game. Then two minutes before kick-off, whip my clothes off and get into my full kit and boots and walk out alongside Harry Kane
“Still can’t believe it! Harry Kane!”
“When the cameraman goes past me whilst they sing the national anthem, I think I might do something funny like poke my tongue out or wink to see if somebody on Twitter makes me into a meme.
“Then once the game kicks off, it’s back into my suit and straight to the dugout.”
