Farewell, Sergio, we hardly knew you

Sergio Aguero is said to be “prepared” for an emotional goodbye from Manchester City having been told on Monday that his contract will not be renewed this summer.

And many of the tears will be saved for those he forged a cast-iron bond with at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Manchester, where he has lived for the last decade.

Speaking through an interpreter following the decision, the now 32-year-old said he would miss the friendly and helpful staff of his long-term residence most of all.

“The chef knows just how like my meals, they installed a satellite just for me to get all the Argentinian TV channels, and the cleaning staff have become some of best friends in Manchester because they’re always so courteous and respectful,” he remarked on Tuesday.

“We don’t talk much because we don’t need to, we’ve got a deeper bond. Plus, they’re always very busy hoovering and changing the bed so there’s not a lot of time for chit-chat, even if I spoke their language.”

“Yes, when I check out and say goodbye to whoever is working at front desk that day I’m sure there will be a tear or two.”

The scorer of Manchester City’s most famous goal is set to move on to pastures new next season but vowed that he would never forget the things that make living in the famous city so unique.

“What can I say about Manchester? It’s an unforgettable place. So many people and buildings and cars and things.

“I have never seen anywhere else like it!”

“I’ll always remember that it exists among the many other cities and places of the world to which I have been,” he said during the heartfelt interview.

“And I will always have memories of this special place. None come to mind right now, but I know I will remember something about it. Definitely. For sure. One day.”

Meanwhile, City fans are planning their own tribute to the departing club legend.

“We’d like to erect a statue of Kun celebrating the goal against QPR – possibly alongside one of Joey Barton getting sent off,” City fan Derek Edghill said this afternoon.

He plans to raise the funds for the commemoration from fellow City fans across Manchester

“And we’re hoping the club might fork out for it as well. There are only 40 of us after all and these things are expensive.”
