91st minute winner sees Dublin punter scoop €22k off just a €2.50 stake

Back of the bloody net!

After one hell of a Cheltenham week, the last thing our bean counters needed was another kick in the pants on top of it, but that’s exactly what happened on Sunday evening! That’s right, yet another crafty customer took us to the woodshed and this time it was by putting their football expertise to good use.

Our victor, who hails from Dublin, Ireland, plundered us to the tune of a whopping €22,967.50 after placing only a €2.50 stake on an accumulator that really has to be seen to be believed! Such was the level of football knowledge involved, we reckon our winner would have Match Of The Day researchers quaking in their boots.

That’s because the bonkers 15-fold bet took in games on Sunday from seven different countries and had 10 separate leagues on the slip. The punt included matches from England, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Belgium and Uruguay (of all places) as it beat off huge offs of 9,186/1 to come in and give our customer a truly unforgettable Sunday.

Of course, there was some drama along the way, but let’s tell you how the loot was landed.

Thankfully, despite current restrictions, we can still take on a worldwide trip in our minds and we’ll start our journey in Spain. Our victor selected four games in Spain, two in La Liga and two in the Segunda División. Lugo and Castellon provided our punter with the only draw required on the betslip in the earlier second-tier kick-off at 17:15 and Rayo Vallecano’s 3-0 success away at AD Alcorcón ticked another box for our winner.

Meanwhile, in La Liga there was no cause for any concern as Barcelona smashed Real Sociedad 6-1 at the Anoeta – with both Sergiño Dest and Lionel Messi on the scoresheet twice each. That was added to by Luis Suarez’s second half winner for Atletico Madrid, as they bested Alaves 1-0 at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

We’ll take a stop over in Belgium next, where our winner was hoping Gent could do the business against Cercle Brugge. It dragged on for a bit, but eventually Alessio Castro-Montes struck for the home side with nine minutes remaining to seal the three points and a 1-0 success.

France followed on the agenda, as heavyweights Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain squared off at the Parc Olympic Lyonnais. PSG would be helped by a brace from their superstar striker Kylian Mbappé as a 4-2 away triumph lifted them back to the top of Ligue 1 after Lille slipped up earlier in the day at Nimes.

Portugal was our next port of call for a pair of games in the Primera Liga, and these came in without too much fuss. Farense left Boavista with a 1-0 win after Lica struck for them midway through the first half and Benfica kept the run going by dismissing 10-man Braga 2-0 later in the evening, thanks to goals either side of half-time from Rafa Silva and Haris Seferovic.

Then it was time to leap across the Atlantic to Uruguay’s Primera Division for a fiery affair between Centro Atlético Fénix and Cerro Largo. Andres Schetino settled the contest in the 36th minute as Fenix would score a 1-0 home win, but three men also saw red cards in what most have been a tough-tackling affair.

With our trip winding down, it was back to England after that where Aston Villa entertained Spurs at Villa Park in the Premier League’s late game. Goals from Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane gave Jose Mourinho’s under pressure side a much-needed boost and also left just five more results required to land our plucky punt.

So, it was off to Italy for our final stop, as our victor selected games from Serie A, Serie B and Serie C. Starting at the top level and Napoli stunned Roma to pick up a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico to stay above them in the table. Dropping into the next league, our winner called it right again by backing Salernitana to win at home to Brescia.

Finally, it was in Serie C where we got the most dramatic moment on our punting adventure. Wins for Lucchese and Juve Stabia (over US Pistoiese and Paganese Calcio respectively) meant everything was riding on the result of the game between Modena and AC Cesena – with our victor backing the home side.

But, the game remained level as the clock ticked over the 90 minute mark. That was until Mattia Corradi was slipped in and slammed the ball in the net to deliver an injury-time winner for the home outfit, sending our customer into dreamland as a result.

That goal meant the cash was claimed and an amazing total of €22,967.50 was on its way to Dublin. All that’s left to say is, enjoy the winnings and welcome to our Punting Hall of Fame!
