‘I’d rather retire than join Spurs’, says man who retired 3-years ago

Forget Spurs, Mesut's got something else in mind.

Former footballer Mesut Ozil claims he’d rather retire for a second time rather than sign for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 32-year-old made the remarks during a Twitter Q&A when asked if he’d ever considering coming out of retirement to play for Spurs.

“Easy question. I’d retire. You know, properly this time. Like make it official and stuff,” Ozil told his 25.5M followers.

Ozil hung up his boots three years ago after signing a £350,000-a-week agreement with Arsenal to stay at home.

Since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013, the German playmaker has gone on to make over 500 appearances on Twitter.

Reflecting on his time at Arsenal in the same Twitter Q&A, Ozil claims he has “no regrets” about signing for the club.

“No regrets whatsoever. The easiest £120M I ever earned,” he said.

The former Werder Bremen and Real Madrid midfielder also dismissed claims he’s lost his hunger and desire in recent years.

“I have plenty more years of partying left in the tank,” argued Ozil.

“With the distractions of top-flight football no longer impacting upon my playboy lifestyle, I want to assure all the nightclub owners around the world I’m still 100 per cent committed to running up expensive tabs.”

During the Q&A, Ozil also discussed his blossoming friendship with fellow Arsenal outcast and club mascot Gunnersaurus.

“Gunnsy’s in my bubble so we’ve been keeping each other company during lockdown,” revealed the former Schalke ace.

When asked what they’ve done to pass the time during the ongoing pandemic, Ozil said: “Baked a sh*t load of banana bread, shaved each other’s heads and even made a few TikToks.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists Ozil has definitely secured his legacy at the club.

“Mesut will follow in the footsteps of other Arsenal ‘greats’ such as Overmars, Cole, Adebayor and Van Persie – who bled the club dry then jumped ship at the first opportunity,” he said.
