Mikel Arteta is now the odds-on favourite in Paddy Power’s sack race – after Arsenal lost at Everton on Saturday evening. Arteta price to be the next Premier League manager to leave their position has moved in, with his side extending their win-less run in the league to seven matches. The Gunners last won a Premier League game on November 1st, when they beat Manchester United 1-0 – remember that?

To illustrate Arsenal’s crisis, Paddy Power erected a mannequin outside The Emirates stadium –wearing a long puffer jacket which evokes memories of legendary former boss Arsene Wenger. Alongside it, a sign reads: “Some styles go out of fashion too quickly #AW2020”. But Wenger is a huge outsider to succeed Arteta should he be sacked  – for context, that’s the same price as Sol Campbell.

Max Allegri, a six-time Serie A winning manager with AC Milan and Juventus, tops the betting, ahead of Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers, and PSG boss Thomas Tuchel.

Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry are both in the mix, but the odds suggest Arsenal won’t repeat the trick of hiring a playing legend as manager.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino follows in the market with him having the potential to do a reverse George Graham, and become only the second manager in history to manage the two North London rivals in succession – following Terry Neill, who left Spurs for Arsenal in 1976.

It seems a long time since Arsene Wenger was hounded out of Arsenal for finishing sixth in the league – the season after taking the club to FA Cup success. Perhaps that’s an omen for Mikel Arteta as, just months after delivering silverware to The Emirates, we make it odds-on that he’s the next Premier League boss to leave their position.
