While most of us put together our Saturday accas after scanning the form all week, followed the team new religiously on Twitter and weighed up the xG probabilities before laying down a 25,000/1 11-leg punt, there are some sorts who just like to wing it.
We’re guessing that’s what one Dagenham-based punter, who is now richer to the tune of £23,901.92, did on the Saturday past as he took Paddy to the cleaners in lightning-quick time – though it could’ve been a lot worse for yours truly.
That’s because this savvy sort made a nine-leg football punt that added up to a bookie-bashing 57,432/1 for the princely sum of £5.
Do the sums on that, it adds up to a possible return of £287,161!
And this bettor put in a mighty good effort to claim the whole lot before making a shrewdly-timed exit with almost £24k.

They jumped on games in-play early on Saturday, combining lower-league German football – Karlsruhe, Heidenheim and Braunschweig to win for all you hipsters out there – with Poprad of Slovakia, Labunishta of North Macedonia – congrats on the name-change by the way – and even a bit of Uruguayan Under-19 football with Danubio added for six of their nine punts, with the lowest priced at 6/5 and Braunschweig at 7/1 to win.
Those teams all winning, which they did, would’ve given a tidy payout of £19,630 for a fiver on its own.
But this plucky punter wasn’t going to stop at that, with Reading in the Championship’s early kick-off thrown in for good measure, their 2-0 victory meaning seven correct calls on this bet.
With Man United the final leg at 5.30pm on Saturday evening, that would’ve been an 8-of-9 too, as they ran out 3-1 winners following a ropey start.

However, our winner had seen the writing on the wall for Everton away at Burnley as the hour-mark ticked by and the score remained 1-1. They’d backed the Toffees at 5/2 in-play just minutes after Robbie Brady had given the Clarets the lead, anticipating a furious Blue fight back.
However, there was just one goal to show for their efforts by 1:45pm and, rather than bite their nails waiting for a winner that would, ultimately, never arrive, this wagerer weighed up our cach-out offer of £23,901.92 and said thank you very much.
Very smart. A thoroughly deserved spot in Paddy’s Hall of Fame is your reward.
