Kane appeals over Winks wonder goal – ‘If he doesn’t want it, it’s mine’

Spurs midfielder Harry Winks smashed a screamer in from the touchline against Ludogorets - at least we think it was him

Harry Kane is set to appeal to UEFA that Harry Winks’ wonder goal against Ludogorets should be credited to him instead as the Spurs midfielder admitted the eye-popping effort a mistake and was meant to be a pass instead.

Tottenham goal-machine Kane, 27, has already discussed claiming the goal as his own after Winks, 24, refused to take credit for it in the wake of Spurs’ 4-0 win over the Bulgarian side on Thursday night.

“If Winksy doesn’t want it I’ll have it, ” he said, according to a source close to the Tottenham dressing room in the aftermath of the win.

Kane was an unused substitute for the game, and was reported to have said afterwards that “I could’ve hit it from there.

“And I’d have meant it, so there’s no reason it shouldn’t be mine.”

“That could be Puskas winner. No one I’m letting that one go,” he continued.

Kane infamously claimed a Cristian Eriksen goal against Stoke as his own – and successfully had the Premier League change the scorer – as he pursued a third successive Premier League Golden Boot in 2018.

And fans have been quick to praise the Tottenham striker for his determination to lay claim to the fluke.

“Completely fearless in the face of undeniable evidence that he was sitting on his arse in the stands at the time,” said @THFC6061 on Twitter, “That’s just what the gaffer wants to see.”

“Nothing shows leadership like taking credit for the efforts of others #hero #hazza”

Though not everyone was so impressed.

“Wow. Harry really setting an example for Spurs fans who think they’re gonna win the league – both completely delusional,” @Gonersaurus wrote in reaction to the news.

Tottenham take on Chelsea this Sunday and reports have reached us that Winks will be forced to train with the youth team for not taking credit for the goal.

And, encouragingly for the Tottenham table-toppers, confusion reigned at Chelsea training this morning as Roman Abramovich tried to get a message to the manager from his Tel Aviv base.

“Roman was keen to impress on the manager that he wanted to see Ballack in the team this weekend, and was wondering why Torres wasn’t getting to play any more.”

“Frank got on the phone to him and explained they were no longer at the club, and Roman went ballistic, saying he needed to talk to the manager.”

“Turns out he’s been talking to Jose for the last two years thinking he’s still the Chelsea boss,” our source explained.

Awkward.
