Following the news that Marcus Rashford is set to receive a special award at this year’s Sports Personality of The Year ceremony, we have refunded all single bets on him for the main category.
The Manchester United star has been campaigning to end child food poverty, which saw his odds of winning this year’s SPOTY award fall from 150/1 to 3/1 between May and September.
This made him by far and away the most popular selection with bookmakers to scoop the gong. However, after failing to make the shortlist for the main category, which is voted for by the public, he will instead be honoured with a special award.
Rashford missed the shortlist, but he was insanely popular with our punters who were convinced he was the rightful winner – so we thought we’d give them a bit of justice here.
With Rashford now out of the picture for the 2020 SPOTY, Lewis Hamilton has quickly moved into pole position as Paddy’s overwhelming favourite for the 2020 prize.
The F1 superstar cruised to a record-equalling seventh-world title and has roared past the legendary Michael Schumacher’s haul of 91 to have won the most F1 races in history with 94 and rising.
Heavyweight great Tyron Fury is next in the markets after his heroics against Deontay Wilder back in February. Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan in our third favourite at the time of writing after another strong showing for the 44-year old and a World Championship title to boot.
