Ex-Man United star says his mate Solkjaer isn’t to blame for latest defeat

In a shocking turn of event, someone who played in teams with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to blame the United manager for the latest debacle

Another Man United player from the nineties and early noughties has said that the team’s latest defeat, to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League, had nothing to do with his close personal friend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The ex-Old Trafford star, who isn’t worth naming because they’re all saying exactly the same thing, made his comments in the wake of another embarrassing defeat for the team “led” by his old teammate.

“It’s like I was saying to him last week when we had a natter on the phone, there’s only so much a manager can do. You sign the players, decide the contracts, train the team, pick the team and tell them where to play, but you can’t go out on the pitch for them.

“And Ole can’t do anything about the players he’s got to work with – at least not now he’s signed them or brought them up from the youth team.”

This multiple-title winner under Sir Alex Ferguson said that United would be “barmy” to dump his good pal despite the club suffering its worst start to a league campaign since 1972, the last season they were relegated.

“Sir Alex won nothing in his first three years,” they argued, disregarding Ferguson’s remarkable feat of turning Aberdeen from a club where cattle grazed on the pitch on weekdays into a league and European trophy-winning side.

“And I’d say that even if I didn’t have to worry about upsetting him in the ‘Old Trafford Legends’ group chat. He’s a top lad and will be a top manager.

“He’s only had a couple of years to get his message across. He needs more time and more players who are better. Lots more players.

“If someone could find him a few decent players, and someone could coach and motivate them to play better, then there’s no reason Ole can’t be a great manager for United.

“But until someone comes along to do all those things for him, you can’t really blame Ole for them being cr*p, can you?”

When asked specifically about United’s shambolic defence in the build-up to the to Demba Ba’s opening goal, he said “It’s not Ole’s job to have them organised, is it?”

“It’s not like he can tell them what to do. He’s only the manager.”

“How’s it his responsibility if they look like an under-10s team? He told them to play good.”

And he admitted that the community of ex-United players who’ve tried their hand in the managerial game have been rallying around the struggle Red Devils boss.

“Brucie, Hughesie, Keaney, Scholesey, Phil Nevilley, they’ve all been in touch to give him advice on how to be a great manager.”

“He’ll be ignoring it all because their collective record’s worse than Simply Red’s Greatest Hits, but it’s the thought that counts.”
