Football Tips: Our tasty 11/1 treble for Wednesday’s EFL games including Luton v Forest

Forget the Champions League, Wednesday's all about the Championship. Honest!

7.45pm: Luton v Nottingham Forest – Under 2.5 Goals

Luton and Forest go head-to-head in front of the Sky cameras on Wednesday night in what seems a strange choice to grace our screens, especially when the league’s 2nd and 4th placed teams are in action against each other and Forest were on telly the other night. However, these decision were made some time ago and the selection gives us another chance to see how Chris Hughton is reshaping Forest and allows us a closer look at Luton who looked like the potential surprise package in the opening weeks of the season.

One thing the stats tell us, though, is not to expect lots of goals. Hughton has already tightened up Forest’s backline and has arrested a run of four straight defeats with a win and two draws in his three games at the helm. Forest have been poor generally, but were only losing narrowly before their change in manager, with Over 2.5 Goals landing just once way back at the start of the month.

They will keep it tight and it is tempting to think another draw will be on the cards for Forest until you investigate Luton’s feast-or-famine approach to accruing points this season. Nathan Jones’ side are yet to settle for a draw in 2020/21, winning four and losing three. However, they’ve been involved in tight affairs and Over 2.5 goals has landed just once for them this season as well.

Luton got a vital win at the weekend to pick themselves up after two defeats while Forest have started grinding out points. While it’s hard to predict the outcome, everything points towards a low-scoring affair and we’re happy enough to take the Under 2.5 Goals with some nice value on offer in the other games of our Championship treble.

7.45pm: Birmingham v Huddersfield – Huddersfield to Win

In another tricky match to call we’re turning our attention to the most-recent form of Birmingham and Huddersfield who meet at St. Andrew’s this midweek. Both teams will be disappointed with their points tallies so far and have four wins between them from a combined 14 games.

However, Huddersfield have three of those to City’s one, who have drawn four and lost twice. Town have a draw and three defeats to go with their three wins. Recently The Terriers have been picking up after a slow start and their three wins have all come in their last five games. The Blues have recorded two defeats and three draws over their last five Championship outings.

Huddersfield are 14th in the league but seem to be on the up with Carlos Corberan’s methods finally starting to take hold at The John Smith’s. Aitor Karanka has steadied the ship at Birmingham, but they face an in-form side on Wednesday and we’re hoping the visitors can keep moving up the table with a Huddersfield Win.

7.45pm: Derby v Cardiff – Cardiff to Win

Derby have been a shambles this season and avoided defeat for just the second time this term on Friday night against Nottingham Forest. Cardiff have been disappointing, but that’s been based off poor home form as they’ve been tearing it up on the road.

They’ll be pleased to be leaving the ‘firebreaker lockdown’ in Wales and heading to Pride Park for Wednesday’s clash against the struggling Rams for a number of reasons. Cardiff have played away three times this term, notching two wins and a draw while losing two and drawing two at home.

Derby have five losses, one draw and one win so far, with both of their results coming on the road. These are two sides that seem to hate their home comforts and, based on Derby’s shocking form overall and The Bluebirds’ love of a road trip, we’re backing the Cardiff Win in this one.
