Exclusive: Man United ‘still expect Dortmund to blink’ on Sancho deal

They'll crack... any second now...

Entrance to Old Trafford, Manchester United

Manchester United are still expecting Borussia Dortmund to cave in on their transfer demands for Jadon Sancho, according to our sources close to the club.

Despite the transfer window shutting last night, Red Devils executives believe this is “the last thing Dortmund would’ve expected” and is “a tactical masterstroke” as the game of cat-and-mouse drags on in the protracted negotiations.

“Ed doesn’t want to give anything away” and Old Trafford insider revealed, “especially whether United actually want to sign Sancho or not.”

“When you’re playing high-level poker like this, you can’t let others know what you’re thinking.”

“Ed readily admits the skywriting plane delivering the “I *heart* Jadon, love Ed” was a tactical misstep, but he’s keeping his cards close to his chest now.”

United have already tabled bids for the England international, but the Bundesliga side have refused to do a deal as their valuation of the player is considerably higher.

“We’re playing it cool and Dortmund will be knocked off-balance now – no one could’ve predicted United are shambolic as to let the deadline pass before upping their bid. It’s genius.”

“It’s only a matter of time before Dortmund crack.”

“Any minute now the phone will ring… any minute…”

Asked how manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer views the daring negotiation tactic, our source said, “if the way he grins and says nothing in meetings is anything to go by, he’s all on-board.”

“The way he keeps playing clips from Gary Neville and Patrice Evra on his phone has caused some concern though, but it’s not like he can complain anyway.”

“If he kicks up a stink he’ll be back managing Stavanger Toestub quick that you can say ‘6-1 to Spurs.’”

The Old Trafford outfit did secure the services of Edinson Cavani before the deadline, however, on a free transfer from PSG – after the requisite €10m was paid to Cavani’s brother and agent to seal the deal.

“Once I heard Man United were interested, it was the only club for me,” the 33-year-old said. “That, and that they would pay €10m to my brother. That’s what I needed to hear.”

And the Uruguayan admitted he was “delighted” to be following in the footsteps of other United panic-buys like Marouane Fellaini, Alexis Sanchez and Radamel Falcao.

“It’s an honour to join such illustrious company. I only wish I can make half the impact they did on this great club.”
