Football tips: Chelsea’s Werner to storm the Palace in our 14/1 Same Game Multi

We're backing the German to be the jewel in the crown as Chelsea rout the Palace.

Chelsea and Crystal Palace to open up a Saturday – bloody marvellous. It’s a London derby of sorts that truly isn’t, as well as being a lopsided affair on paper that also really isn’t.

Signing some of the best players in Europe should benefit your team – but it really isn’t. At the same time, appointing and then sticking with Roy Hodgson should set your football club back decades and for one last time – it really hasn’t.

Chelsea, for all their talent, have stumbled out of the starting blocks and while it does takes time, it’s not exactly a club known for patience, is it? There needs to be a statement from them soon; a sign that they’re well and truly capable of competing at the top table.

As for Hodgson? Well, if I can borrow a baseball metric of WAR (wins above replacement), he’s probably already exceeded it, and he can sit down his with cuppa on a Friday night and be proud of that. I sense a thrashing coming. Here’s a Same Game Multi for you fine folks.

Chelsea to be leading at half-time and win

There’s something about the early kickoffs that seem to spark sides into life. You’re closer-removed from your analysis, your briefings and week-long motivation. The one good thing about having a tonne of new imports from big leagues is that they’re not used to losing games, or disappointing. Even without proper preparation, and any form of fanbase to help, there comes a time where the quality shines through, out of pride from the stars.

This is probably going to be Chelsea’s coming out party, and the start of a run of wins that make people think they actually are as advertised.

Along with Frank’s young guns taking a half-time lead into the interval, it’s worth backing them to get knuckle down in the second-half and getting the job done come the final whistle too.

Luka Milivojevic to be Booked

And who could blame him? He’ll be like a hitchhiker in the middle of spaghetti junction. While he can sit and break down play quite well because his passing range is there to send his wingers long as per usual, what the big man really lacks is a turn of pace, or the ability to turn at all.

Chelsea will send runners from midfield, and they have the quality in there to play around him. He’s going to be sat deeper than usual, and if he gets turned, he’ll stick out a leg – as is his nature.

Timo Werner to Have Two or More Shots on Target

He’s bound to be frustrated with his performances to date, and the fact they’re shifting him out of central positions probably doesn’t help, but it does help us in this particular instance.

Chelsea will bombard the full-backs and allow a step inside. Think of Willian last year – this will now be attributed to Werner as he releases his frustration on the Palace goal. He’s also benefitting from the fact that Stamford Bridge is one of the narrower pitches in the league.
