Friday night sees the return to action of the Turkish Super Lig and the DFB Pokal gets started in Germany while France’s Ligue 1 rolls on.
We’ve gone through the best of Friday night’s European football and found the three best bets for a tasty treble to help you start the weekend right. Let’s have a look at what we’ve picked.
Rizespor were lucky to escape relegation last season and will have to do much better this time around, particularly on the road, if they are to survive another Super Lig campaign.
Their home form was decent though, it was on their travels that they really let themselves down, winning just two of their 17 away matches. At home they won eight, drew three and lost six, averaging 1.53 goals and conceding 1.18.
Fenerbahce are going to have to see not qualifying for European football as a blessing in disguise. They can now build on their impressive home form from last season to push on up the table.
However, like Rizespor, their away form was hugely problematic last season, they won just four of their 17 away matches. Contrast that with their home form where they only lost three times in the league.
The away side here have had a more rigorous pre-season with five matches, winning three and drawing two. Rizespor only played two matches, losing both.
The away side have added a decent amount of firepower over the transfer window too, but goals weren’t really the problem last season. It was a leaky defence that saw them concede the highest amount of the Top 7.
Both Teams to Score has landed in four out of five previous meetings here and we see that trend continuing.
Both teams come into this German season opener with a fair number of pre-season matches under their belts. Results haven’t been great for either, though.
Braunschweig played six, won three and lost three. Hertha played four, winning one and losing three. Pre-season form cannot always be trusted though.
What’s of interest here is that Hertha have beaten Braunschweig in four of their last five visits to the Eintracht-Stadion with Over 2.5 goals landing in three and BTTS landing in four.
The gulf between the sides should make all the difference here. Braunschweig are a total yo-yo team who were last in the Bundesliga in 2013/14. They’ve since fallen from there to the third tier but last season’s second-placed finish was enough to secure promotion back to Bundeslgia II.
Hertha, since being promoted to the Bundesliga in 2013, have established themselves and their squad is full of international players. In fact, many of them played over the Nations League break meaning they won’t be nearly as rusty as Braunschweig’s players.
The home side should be good enough to get a goal here so we’re backing Hertha to Win & BTTS.
Bordeaux have only lost one of their last 10 Ligue 1 matches – and that was against the mighty PSG. However, six of those 10 were draws.
Lyon will be looking to keep their good Champions League form going and began their league campaign with a 4-1 trouncing of Dijon a fortnight ago with Memphis Depay scoring a hat trick.
Over the last five meetings at the Matmut Atlantique, both sides have won two each and there’s been one draw. Over 2.5 goals landed in four and BTTS landed in all five.
Over 2.5 goals has the better odds here but Bordeaux’s matches of late haven’t exactly seen the goals flowing so we’re going with the safer option of Both Teams to Score at some healthy odds.
All of these picks into a Treble will give you odds of around 10/1 with Paddy Power.
