After an embarrassing exit from the Champions League at the hands of Ferencvaros, Celtic took a big step towards sorting their defensive issues on Wednesday by announcing the signing of Irish international defender Shane Duffy.
Duffy, who is currently with the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League games against Bulgaria and Finland, signed on for a one-season loan deal from Brighton and The Bhoys are rumoured to want to make his signing permanent at the end of the season.
The Derry native follows in a long line of high-profile Irish internationals to wear the famous green and white hoops of Celtic, including the likes of Roy Keane, Robbie Keane, Aiden McGeady, Tony Cascarino and Packie Bonner.
But, how will he fare at Parkhead? Can he help Celtic to their holy grail of 10 Scottish Premiership title in-a-row? And most importantly, can he hurt Rangers?
Our number crunchers have come up with a few juicy specials to mark Duffy’s time at Celtic. Let’s tell you about them:
Duffy… ????????? ✅?
? @FAIreland international defender, Shane Duffy has joined #CelticFC on a season-long loan! ??
Duffy is a nifty habit of getting his noggin onto everything, so after numerous requests from punters we’ve got the Irishman at a decent price to net score 5+ SPL headed goals in 20/21 season.
He’s also an interesting poke to score 10+ SPL goals in 20/21 season, after all you know what the defending is like north of the border!
Rangers
This is the one most Celtic supporters reading this story will have been waiting for. With the Old Firm derby almost certainly set to happen four times in the league this season, you’ll find Duffy at intriguing odds to net against his new club’s greatest rivals in the SPL at some stage this campaign.
Duffy is well known for his love of The Bhoys, but could that obsession translate to being overly passionate during the Old Firm? It could happen, so we’ve also priced up odds on the towering centre back to be sent off in a league game against Rangers this season.
Cup finals
Celtic have hoovered up more Scottish silverware than we can count in the last decade and are usually nailed on to contest one of the domestic cup finals in a season. So, we’ve asked our traders to come up with a market on Duffy to find the net in a Scottish FA Cup final or Scottish League Cup final.
Will he stay?
This is will be the question that plagues Duffy from the Scottish media contingent from now until the end of the season. But, looking at the odds we’re offering, it seems highly likely that we might see Shane in green and white for many seasons to come.
