Nations League tips: Watch our top trader select his best bets for Germany v Spain

Germany and Spain return to action for the first time in 10 months as they kick-start their UEFA Nations League campaigns tonight.

The hosts are without several of their regular stars with Bayern Munich players enjoying a well-earned holiday after their Champions League triumph – but Joachim Low’s side are still favourites to beat their opponents on home turf.

Match Result: Spain to win

I’m liking Spain to win this game. It’s a youthful, inexperienced Spanish squad but I think they’ll beat Germany in Stuttgart.

Germany are without their Bayern Munich contingent who won the Champions League. They’re missing Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller so that’s a big chunk of the starting XI to replace.

Germany are slightly weak at the back as well. Their centre-back partnership of Antonio Rudiger and Niklas Sule is not the quickest in the world and some of these young Spanish players will relish the chance to run at them.

Luis Enrique has had big reshuffle of the Spanish squad. He’s called up a number of young promising players who are yet to be tested at international level but they do Ansu Fati of Barcelona and Manchester City new boy Ferran Torres.

Spain To Win & Both Teams To Score

Adama Traore of Wolves was called up but he misses out after testing positive for COVID-19 during the week. I think Spain will do enough to win, and I think there will be goals as well.

Germany are missing some of their star forward players but such is the depth of their talent pool that they can still call upon the likes of Leroy Sane, new Chelsea signing Timo Werner and Kai Havertz as well.

It’s a game that both managers will want to win. Two proud footballing nations. Joachim Low, the German manager, is under a bit of pressure after finishing bottom of the World Cup group in 2018 and also bottom of the Nations League group in the last campaign.

Some thought it was time for him to go and the pressure will really ramp up on him with a poor campaign here. It is the ‘Group of Death’ as well with Switzerland and a much-improved Ukraine side there as well so a fast start is needed.

I think it’s going to be a cracker and we can expect goals but I’m going to go with Spain to get off to a winning start. If you do want to spruce up the price, there will be goals so Spain to win and both teams to score will give you that bigger price.
