Manchester United are still said to be keen on RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano – but there remain a number of problems hindering a deal. The Bundesliga side really, really don’t want to sell and he’s only recently signed a new contract in July.
Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the 22-year-old, throwing further spanners in the works.
So, it’s perfect United-transfer rumour fodder then. Or is it? Our trusty traders slashed the odds on the classy French centre back heading to Old Trafford after a flurry of bets back in September – and this interest hasn’t gone away.
Upamecano was as long as 7/1 to make a move to Old Trafford, but he shot in to almost even money after the surge of investment. And there is still plenty of support for a Manchester United move, despite Marcus Rashford running the youngster ragged in a 5-0 Champions League thumping last month.
We all know Bayern Munich like to hoover up the top talent in the Bundesliga so it’s probably no surprise that they’re lurking behind United as our second favourites to do a deal before the January transfer window.
Back in September, Arsenal were the surprise name on our list of suitors – given their seeming reluctance to spend big money on quality defenders – while Manchester City were also in the mix.
Spanish giants Real Madrid completed our list as they considered a long-term replacement for the all-conquering Sergio Ramos, but Upamecano remained odds-on to stay with Leipzig for the foreseeable future.
Dayot Upamecano next club odds: Man Utd face competition from Liverpool, City and Bayern
A very expensive deal that could drag on for ages and be near-impossible to pull off? Count Manchester United interested.
