Saturday 17:00 – Sligo Rovers v Dundalk: Dundalk to win

Sligo Rovers should bounce into this one full of confidence after beating Waterford late on Tuesday night, while Dundalk arrive with a cloud hanging over them. The Lilywhites were tossed out of Europe by Slovenian champions NK Celje on Wednesday night and subsequently relived manager Vinny Perth of his duties a day later.

Dundalk may not be the side that we saw for the last few years, but it will still be a big ask for Sligo to beat them here. They’ve struggled hugely in the last three games, only picking up two points from a possible nine and that’s really poor by their lofty standards.

But, after everything that has gone on at the club this week, you would have to expect a reaction from Dundalk here. Even if it’s a big ask for them now to retain the title, The Lilywhites know they have to win every remaining game to be in with a shout.

I’m going for an away victory here for Dundalk. Let’s face it, they really need it.

Sunday 14:00 – Waterford v Finn Harps: Waterford to win to nil

Waterford suffered a late defeat at the hands of Sligo Rovers last Tuesday, but they have been decent since the restart. John Sheridan has a good side, but I thought they struggled fitness-wise as the game went on in Sligo.

That’s something they will have to improve on moving forward, but I fancy them to get the job done against Finn Harps at the RSC.

Harps are floundering at the bottom of the league, they haven’t won since the resumption and they got beaten again last week by Bohemians.

Waterford have a few dangerous players in the form of Michael O’Connor and Matty Smith, who have come back from lockdown in fine fettle. I just can’t see anything but a home victory here. I reckon the home side will probably even keep Harps off the scoreboard too.

A double on these two best bets pays at approximately 3/1 with Paddy Power.

While we are talking about John Sheridan, I just found his alleged comment describing the League of Ireland as a ‘pub league’ very silly and insulting to the people involved in the league.

We were all excited when Sheridan decided to get involved in Irish football, but Vinny Perth was right to take exception to what he said at the time – everybody should take exception to it really!
