Joe Hart: ‘I battled dandruff. Now I’ll battle Hugo for the No1 jersey’

He's seen off an itchy scalp, now he wants to become Jose's go-to guy.

New Spurs keeper Joe Hart claims he’s ready to challenge Hugo Lloris for No.1 jersey having battled his way back from an itchy scalp.

The 33-year-old has endured a torrid few seasons after a dose of dandruff threatened to end his career.

Hart was Manchester City and England’s No.1 when he first noticed some flaking and itchiness on his head.

The former Burnley keeper has claimed a series of wrong treatments for his chronic dandruff problems left him fearing he may never play football again.

‘I felt like a guinea pig for a lot of these treatments’, said Hart.

‘Finally, my nan recommended I use Head & Shoulders. I just thought ‘what have I got to lose?’.

Having put his dandruff problems behind him, Hart feels ready for the next big challenge of his career.

‘If I can overcome dandruff then I overcome anything else life throws at me’, said a defiant Hart.

‘I respect Hugo and Paulo as professionals but I’m not here to make up the numbers’, he added while running his hand through his luscious flake-free hair.

Jose Mourinho believes the acquisition of Hart means Spurs have an embarrassment of riches in the goalkeeping department.

‘In Hugo, Paulo and Joe, I have three goalkeepers with beautiful hair’, said the Portuguese.

‘Joe knows he has a fight on his hands to become No1, but the resilience and determination he showed to overcome his dandruff problems tells me he’s up for the challenge’.

Meanwhile, Hart’s former boss Pep Guardiola has once again denied allegations his decision to offload the goalkeeper was borne out of hair-envy.

‘I have said many times and I will continue to say it, my decision to replace Joe was nothing to do with his luscious blonde locks’, said the 49-year-old Spaniard.

‘It was strictly professional. I like my goalkeepers to be comfortable with the ball at their feet. Unfortunately, Joe didn’t even feel comfortable with the ball near his hands’.
