Scottish Premiership top scorer odds: Paddy’s verdict on this season’s likely Golden Boot winner

Scottish football is back but who's going to be in the hunt for goals this season?

The Scottish Premiership is back in full flow with all eyes on Celtic to see if they can make it 10 titles in a row. If Neil Lennon’s side are to make it they’ll need to outscore fierce rivals Rangers.

And Paddy thinks they’ll have the firepower to do it, making them favourites for another top-flight victory. But who’s going to be the top marksman in Scotland this term?

Well, it’s a little tricky to pin down at the moment with the transfer window sill open, but we think if Bhoys striker Odsonne Edouard stays he’ll get the job done again. He’s the big favourite ahead of Gers new boy Kemar Roofe – but Alfredo Morelos is not even in the market.

Paddy is convinced the Colombian hothead is set to leave Ibrox before the window closes with Lille widely thought to be in the hunt. However, boss Steven Gerrard has insisted they have not received a suitable offer for him yet.

That makes Roofe Rangers’ most likely winner of the golden boot ahead of Jermain Defoe who is our third favourite in the market. While Edouard is topping the list doubts hang over his long-term future at Parkhead with Aston Villa among a string of clubs linked with him.

Leigh-Griffiths

Behind Defoe is the Bhoys’ summer signing Patryk Klimala, aka the Polish Paddy. We like the sound of him. Whether he takes to life in Scotland with ease or not remains to be seen.

Christian Doidge is next up and he’s our first non-Old Firm player in the list. The Hibs man netted 12 times in the shortened SPL last season and will be looking to improve on that second time around.

We’re back to the big two, as you might expect, for some longer-priced contenders with Leigh Griffiths for the champions and Ianis Hagi of Gers also featuring.

Lawrence Shankland lit up the Championship last season and will be looking to do similar in the top flight this term and could be this year’s dark horse.

Everyone else is 22/1 and higher with Edouard the stand-out favourite. If Alfredo Morelos stays that could have a big bearing on the betting but we don’t think he’s going to hang around and his replacement Roofe is more likely to threaten Celtic’s star man.
