Champions League Golden Boot odds: Can anyone catch Lewandowski?

Robert Lewandowski looks set to win the Champions League Golden Boot for the 2019/20 season with the competition ready to resume on Friday night.

The Bayern Munich hitman has beaten the keeper 11 times so far and has potentially six more games to improve on that haul, starting with the second leg of their last 16 clash with Chelsea on Saturday in which they have a 3-0 advantage.

Erling Haaland is just one behind Lewandowski’s haul of 11. However, the Borussia Dortmund striker has scored his last Champions League goal this season as the Bundesliga boys were eliminated at the hands of Paris St-Germain way back in March.

So, with Haaland out of the picture, who can still catch Lewandowski? Well, no one according to our traders. We’ve priced the 31-year-old up at a massive 1/80 to keep hitting the net and take the big shiny golden shoe home to his lavish Bavarian mansion.

His Bayern team-mate Serge Gnabry is second-most likely in the market but has some serious work to do and has five fewer than the Pole. In terms of the other players still left in the competition, Dries Mertens is on the same as Gnabry with six, but everyone else has fewer.

Gabriel Jesus, Mauro Icardi, Raheem Sterling and Kylian Mbappe are all on five while Lionel Messi, surprisingly, only has two to his name this term. However, the fact that his odds are the same as three players with three goals more than him shows his quality. But, you have to say, even for Messi this is too much of a bridge to gap.

With all this in mind you can see why we’re so confident that Lewandowski will get his hands on this prize, even if he’s been denied a genuine shot at a first Ballon d’Or gong after that event was cancelled this year.
