12pm: Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday – City to win

This is a far bigger game for Bristol City than it is for Sheffield Wednesday, which is why the odds are slightly surprising.

Both sides are seen as a 13/8 chance of winning, but a win for City could lift them to within touching distance of the Championship playoffs.

Granted, the Robins were poor in their 3-1 defeat to Blackburn, but Sheffield Wednesday hardly set the world alight in their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. With a game against fifth-placed Forest to come next week, Bristol City simply have to swat aside Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

The Owls are without a win in six Championship games, a run that has precipitated their slide down the Championship table and there won’t be time to salvage their season if it goes on any longer. However, even though they have dropped from the play-off places to tenth in just six games, they are still just two points off sixth-placed Preston with eight games left to play.

Coming up against a Sheffield Wednesday side with virtually nothing to play for, City have no excuses if they don’t come away with three points.

2.15pm: Nottingham Forest vs Huddersfield – Forest to win

Nottingham Forest’s failings surfaced again last Saturday after they blew yet another late lead. Forest have now dropped 10 points in the last 10 minutes of league games this season, with six of those points coming in injury time.

It doesn’t take a mathematical genius to work out that they would be in the hunt for the automatic promotion places had they just managed to keep their nerve in the business end of games. The Reds simply need to beat Huddersfield this Sunday. There can be no excuses.

With a tricky run of fixtures against Derby, Preston, Swansea, and Fulham on the horizon, Forest need to pick up as many points as they can against teams at the bottom end of the table. Huddersfield looked abject against Wigan last time out and currently lie just two places, and one point, outside the bottom three.

The poor form of Hull and Middlesbrough below them has saved Huddersfield from finding themselves in an even more perilous position, but they will still be looking nervously over their shoulder.

The Terriers won the reverse fixture between these clubs just before Christmas, but that might as well have been from a different season given that it was more than six months ago.

Forest should win on Sunday afternoon and will look to Joe Lolley and Matty Cash to continue their excellent form on the right-hand side.
