Football Tips: Our three best bets for Watford vs Leicester on Saturday

Can the Hornets sting the Foxes?

It’s hard to believe that despite the fact Watford are the only team to beat champions-to-be Liverpool this season, the Hornets find themselves 26 points adrift of Leicester City ahead of their first game in some 14 weeks.

This particular fixture is one that has favoured Watford in recent seasons, too. Leicester City beat Saturday’s opponents 2-0 back in December when two second-half goals from Jamie Vardy and James Maddison sealed the victory for Brendan Rogers’ men, but the Foxes haven’t won at Vicarage Road since their title-winning season of 2015/2016 – that’s three consecutive home wins for Watford in this fixture – and all on 2-1 scorelines too.

Both Teams To Score: No

Results from the past few years would give the impression that both teams to score might be a bet here, but in ten of Watford 16 home games so far this season both teams have failed to score.

Watford to win and under 2.5 goals

With regards to Leicester, before things came to a halt back in March, both teams failed to score in their last five games, two of which the Foxes managed to win. So, given the recent head-to-heads and the inconsistency on the goalscoring front for both sides, Watford to win and under 2.5 goals might be worth considering.

Troy Deeney To Score 1st

The key to finding a Watford goalscorer will be in the team selection, but as Troy Deeney has started in Watford’s last 16 Premier League games, he’s a safer option over Ismaila Sarr and Gerard Deulofeu.

Deeney put the icing on the cake with Watford’s third goal against Liverpool in late February, the Hornets’ last home game, while he’s also been on the mark in home games against Aston Villa (2) and Man Utd this season. In fact, in five of the last nine games in which Watford have been on the scoresheet, Deeney has found the net.

Throw into the mix that he put Watford in front after just five minutes in this fixture last year and Deeney to score first looks a bet. The same applies to the 15/8 that he finds the net for the seventh time this campaign throughout the 90 minutes. If Watford are to win, or even get a share of the spoils, Deeney is likely to be one of the main reasons.
