Liverpool fans have reacted to the news that Timo Werner is signing for Chelsea by saying “he was sh*te anyway”.

After months of speculation linking the RB Leipzig striker with an Anfield move, Liverpool fans breathed a collective sigh of relief this week after the 24-year-old opted for Chelsea instead.

As news of the deal broke, Liverpool supporters descended upon social media to express how glad they were.

“Phew. Dodged a bullet there”, tweeted @Kopite71, whose profile pic was Werner in a Liverpool kit up until this morning.

“It’s the right move for the lad. He’ll play every game for Chelsea. He would only have been a back-up player for us, wrote @FlowersNasalStrip.

“If Klopp had wanted him, we’d have signed him already. This can only mean one thing. We’ve signed Mbappe”, claimed @AnfieldRoar79.

However, in an astonishing twist, all three men were forced to deny allegations they previously said Werner was exactly the type of out-and-out goalscorer Liverpool were crying out for.

“Absolute bullsh*t!!! I said no such thing”, wrote @Kopite71, who’s also alleged to have said the signing of Werner would propel Liverpool to a period of unprecedented domestic and European dominance.

“As if I’d come off with something so ridiculous???”, scoffed @FlowersNasalStrip, who also distanced himself from quotes asserting Werner to be the best young striker in Europe.

“Yeah, good one pal”, quipped @AnfieldRoar79, who vehemently denies claims he’d already got Werner’s name printed on the back of his new Liverpool jersey.

Meanwhile, as news spread that Chelsea had agreed to meet the Germany international’s £54m release clause, Blues fans flocked to social media to express their delight.

“So glad the club has abandoned its failed season-long youth policy experiment and decided to splash the cash again”, tweeted an ecstatic @CechsHelmet.

“Let’s hope he emulates the goalscoring exploits of our other £50m strikers like Shevchenko and Torres”.

“Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea”, added @ChoppersChopper, in reference to that Ivor Novello-winning Stamford Bridge chant.
