Emmanuel Adebayor wins our World Cup of Celebrations with infamous Arsenal taunt

Another (in no way prestigious) award to add to his collection

Emmanuel Adebayor may have landed himself in hot water for his infamous sprint of the full length of Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium pitch to celebrate in front of former club Arsenal’s travelling fans – but at least it’s proven to be award-winning!

Adebayor was slapped with a £25,000 fine and two-match suspended ban for the iconic celebration, which came after scoring against the Gunners just months after swapping London for Manchester in a £25m deal back in 2009.

The Gunners fans in the away end gave the striker the benefit of their opinion on his decision to quit the club for up-and-coming big spenders City and he responded by sprinting the full length of the pitch before a knee slide in front of the visiting Gooners.

Great sh*thousery, Emmanuel. Top-class.

In fact, it’s turned out to be award-winning sh*thousery, after Adebayor’s celebration won our World Cup of Celebrations competition.

We asked you to vote for your favourite of all-time and in the final 45.6% chose him as the winner.

Robbie Fowler’s infamous ‘sniffing’ celebration of the goal-line polled just over a quarter of votes in the final, with Peter Crouch’s robot third and Mario Balotelli’s ‘Why Always Me’ t-shirt reveal in the Manchester derby clocking up 11%.

DON’T MISS:

Adebayor saw off stiff competition to even reach the final, with Paul Gascoigne’s ‘Dentist’s Chair’ celebration from Euro 96, Celtic legend Scott Brown’s taunting of El-Hadji Diouf in an Old Firm Derby and former Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis’ odd crawling celebration all included in a ‘Group of Death’.

But you had little doubt who the real winner was here – with Adebayor registering a similar number of votes to the final at 45.7%.

Gazza was next up on 27% with Scott Brown at 24%. Gomis was a distant last with just 3.3% of votes.
