Newcastle transfer news: Who Paddy Power traders think Newcastle are most likely to sign

With Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund close to buying Newcastle United, Magpies fans are already dreaming of which marquee signings could come through the door this summer.

Here at Paddy Power we’ve priced up some of the most likely players the club will turn to in order to rejuvenate the squad under new ownership.

And it’s a star-studded list of names including Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez, Celtic frontman Odsonne Edouard and… Moussa Sissoko.

We expect the incoming owners to catapult Newcastle into contention for some of the most sought-after players in Europe, but that doesn’t mean they will resist the urge to revisit former flames.

Rodriguez is out-of-favour at the Bernabeu and is 9/1 to trade Los Blancos for the black and white of The Toon.

The Colombian will add some much-needed sparkle to an attacking unit that has failed to fire this season despite the best efforts of £40million signing Joelinton.

And the Magpies are now third-favourites to sign Celtic hitman Edouard at 10/1, but fans will be less excited to see a number of ex-players linked with a return.

We’re offering odds on a St James’ Park comeback for James Milner (10/1), Hatem Ben Arfa (12/1), Sissoko (12/1), and Papiss Cisse (20/1) – because sometimes it’s good to stick to what you know.

However, Newcastle are also odds-on to break their transfer record for the third window in a row this summer if they push the boat out with a statement signing.

While we don’t think they’re going to land a Neymar or Mbappe – just yet, at least – The Toon are now in contention for an army of top players.

Robinho was Manchester City’s statement signing, post takeover, and it is 33/1 he serves the same role for Newcastle – although, for context, it is just as likely they sign Erling Haaland or Jadon Sancho.

Jack Grealish (16/1), Nabil Fekir (18/1) and Luka Modric (20/1) are all shorter odds to join before 31st January 2021 while Rafael Benitez remains favourite to take over from Steve Bruce in the hotseat.
