Paddy’s Hall of Fame: 8 straight wins earn over £80,000 for football punter

At number four in our countdown of the top ten winning football punts on Paddy's books, it's an absolute stonker from across Europe's top leagues

Paddy’s feeling a bit lost without football, so he’s started to look back at some of the biggest ever winning bets he’s paid out on. That should cheer him right up.

I mean, who doesn’t love handing over six-figure sums for gigantic winning accas?

Okay, so maybe being locked away for three weeks isn’t going so well, but at least it keeps him occupied.

You can read number five in our countdown of the top ten winning football accas here – that’s a £1.60 bet that returned over £70,000!

Only fifth, you say? You better believe it. Just get a load of this one…

It can never be said that I am not a man of culture and refined taste. Just because every cell in my body is at 2% flaky pastry and sausage meat does not mean I can’t enjoy the finer thing in life.

I’ve polished off every bottle of wine in the house since lockdown began – if that doesn’t tell you I’m a real connoisseur I don’t know what will.

Even in football, I can appreciate the more sophisticated continental leagues to the brawny bluster of the Premier League.

And so do some of you punters, because I quite often take a spanking on accas from across Europe.

Not many total up to this January 2017  effort though, where one better went loopy for Ligue 1 (that’s pronounced ‘ugh’ by us Francophones, don’t you know?).

Out of their eye-popping eight-legged acca, four of their winners came from the land of Cantona, couture, and cheap booze runs, and helped them net a frankly mind-blowing £88,289.20.

That’ll put the va-va-voom in your je’nais cest quoi.

Bordeaux, Angers and St Etienne were all picked to win at around even money, and combined with three more wins from the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A of slightly better odds, this bettor would’ve been talking about a sizable slice from just those six results combined.

But they still had two games left to be played. First, it was back to the French top-flight, where some young lad called Kylian Mbappe was tearing it for Monaco as they travelled to PSG for a crucial showdown. Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani would score one of his 35 league goals that season to open the deadlock in the 80th minute, temporarily lifting the Parisians level on points with their opponents in the league title chase.

That goal would’ve scuppered our punter’s hopes of a big payout if it had remained the only score of the game though. Thankfully, soon-to-be a City-star, Bernardo Silva, popped up in injury time to bring in the draw and take this audacious acca to seven wins from eight.

But, at the end of the day, while we all like a bit of foreign football, there really is nothing like a good old, midweek Premier League relegation clash. With every other result confirmed from the weekend before, our winner had wait to Crystal Palace to claim all three points against Bournemouth two days later, at odds of just over 5/2, to bring the total acca odds to 4,414/1.

Their£20 stake meant they pocketed over £80,000 for their winning straight of eight bets.

Not bad at all.
