The football world’s ground to a halt, along with pretty much everything else, so Paddy’s been looking back at some ginormous gambles gobbled up by our savvy football backers over the years.

We’re all missing the Premier League right now – life just isn’t the same without Liverpool getting dodgy VAR decisions in their favour every week, is it?
Back in the dim and distant days of 2012 we didn’t have to worry about technology interfering with the Mike Dean Show – and one punter had Paddy wishing he could get a replay review having nailed four correct scores at odds of over 79,000/1!
The weekend of December 9th saw this shrewd selector nail the result in Man United’s 3-2 derby win away at the Etihad, with Robin Van Persie’s injury-time free-kick deflecting past Joe Hart to win the day for the Red Devils. It put them 6 points clear of their cross-city rivals in the title race, Sir Alex Ferguson’s last in the dugout at Old Trafford.

feels like it’s about 70 years ago, not just seven.
That goal also meant the 22/1 odds of a 3-2 United win came in on this fourfold punt.
That wasn’t even the biggest winner on the docket though, as Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool fought back from 2-1 away at West Ham to bring in another 3-2 win for this punter – at odds of 30/1!
These two winners alone would’ve returned at 660/1, but two more results – Everton winning 2-1 at Goodison against Spurs, and Chelsea winning 3-1 away at Sunderland – added 7/1 and 13/1 winners to the bet as well.
With a .50p stake, this bettor netted almost £40,000 at odds of 79,856/1.
Honestly, those are ridiculous odds – the last time I saw number like that it was the price the traders gave on Paddy sticking to his vegan diet for a week.
Needless to say, that was not a winner.
But this fourfold sure was. Nostradamus stuff, and certainly worthy of a spot in Paddy’s Hall of Fame.
