Wednesday night sees some mouth-watering FA Cup action, we’ve had a look through the three matches to find a nicely-priced treble.
Leicester City vs Birmingham City: Leicester to Win & BTTS – 13/8
Wednesday, 7.45pm
Leicester’s season has kind of limped along of late. They’ve not won in any of their last five matches and have only won four of their 12 matches so far in 2020. Birmingham City meanwhile have only lost one match in 2020.
Of their last five home matches, Leicester have only beaten West Ham and your Uncle Dave’s pub team could beat them at home. They’ve drawn with Aston Villa and Chelsea at home of late, losing to Southampton and Manchester City.
Birmingham haven’t lost an away match since December 21st, and they’ve won three and drawn five in that time. They’re not exactly worldbeaters on the road but manager Pep Clotet has, cliche klaxon, made them incredibly difficult to beat. Leicester’s home advantage here and needing to rekindle their season should be too strong for Clotet’s side though. The bluenoses should make a tough night of it still, so we’re going with Leicester to Win and BTTS at 13/8.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Manchester City: City -2 – 6/4
Wednesday, 7.45pm, BBC One
Sheffield Wednesday could inflict some post-hangover pain on the League Cup winners here. Couldn’t they? Well, yes, they could. Technically. Wednesday’s season had looked like it could have led to some Playoff shenanigans but, once again, the goals have dried up at Hillsborough. Just to illustrate this further, look at their last six home matches; they’ve scored just three times.
City come into this on the back of that League Cup win, a match they had to work hard to win after Aston Villa were let back into the game thanks to yet another John Stones gaffe. You can’t argue though with City’s away record, they’ve won four of their last five on the road, indeed they’ve lost just two of their last 13 away matches.
Of course, Wednesday are going to be fired up for this and the old romantic in us is certainly looking forward to an FA Cup clash under lights at Hillsborough but with the home side finding it so hard to score, City should breeze past them into the next round so we’ve backing City on the -2 Handicap here at 6/4.
Spurs vs Norwich: Spurs to Win – 8/13
Wednesday, 7.45pm
Spurs’ matches have been incredibly good entertainment of late. Yes, Spurs matches, with Jose Mourinho as manager, are fun to watch. It’s been helter-skelter with loads of goals even though Tottenham are missing their best players, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min. Mourinho’s team can make a statement here, a good cup run would cement his place on the Spurs throne and Mourinho has a knack for getting the best out of his teams in cup competitions.
Their home form of late isn’t mighty, they’ve lost their last two home matches (to Wolves and RB Leipzig) and have lost four overall in their last 10, they’ve won the other six though and have scored at least two goals in all six of those wins.
Were Norwich a farm animal they’d have been put out to pasture long ago and allowed to see out its days. No such sympathy in football though and they could be in for another long night here. The Canaries have won just three of their last 15 away matches. Add to this the fact that Norwich have only ever beaten Spurs five times over 32 previous meetings as the away team and you can see why we’re backing Spurs to Win at 8/13 here.
All of these picks in a treble will give you odds of over 9/1
Leicester City vs Birmingham City: Leicester to Win & BTTS – 13/8
Sheffield Wednesday vs Manchester City: City -2 – 6/4
Spurs vs Norwich: Spurs to Win – 8/13
