John Terry was inconsolable after he was denied the opportunity to lift the Carabao Cup wearing a full Aston Villa kit and shin pads, according to reports.
The Villans assistant head coach had informed the players before kick-off he would be lifting the trophy in a full Villa strip in the unlikely event they managed to beat Man City.
Despite the best efforts of John Stones, City went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Sergio Aguero and Rodri.

A tearful Terry watched on as David Silva hoisted the League Cup above his impressive hair transplant.
The sobbing 39-year-old was comforted by Villa players as he made his way back to the Wembley changing rooms.
‘John hasn’t been this upset since they lifted his super-injunction in 2010’, confirmed Villa boss Dean Smith.
‘He’s gone to all that trouble of putting his kit on and he never got his hands on the trophy. All the lads in there are gutted for him’, added the 48-year-old.
Terry took to Twitter last night to apologise to Villa’s supporters for letting them down.
‘I want to say sorry to the fans of both sides who made the journey south specifically to see me lift the trophy in a full Villa kit today’, wrote the former Chelsea skipper.
‘Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be on this occasion but there will be other opportunities, whether that’s with Villa or another club’.
In related news, it’s understood Terry is in advanced talks with Liverpool and is hoping the transfer will be completed in time to lift the Premier League trophy.
Terry dropped a huge hint that the deal is all but done after updating his Instagram bio which now reads ‘Liverpool FC Legend’.
It will be Terry’s seventh Premier League winners medal after winning five with Chelsea and 1 with Leicester according to his website.
‘It’s only fitting John will lift Liverpool’s first Premier League trophy in the 30-years after his great service to the club’, said brother Paul Terry.
Meanwhile, it’s alleged Terry turned up at his son’s school sports day last year wearing a full PE kit.
The former England defender then went up to collect a packet of crisps on behalf of his son who finished first in the egg & spoon race.
