Football punter lands 5,174/1 acca after late dramas make him one of luckiest winners ever

What a rollercoaster of emotions this must have been.

Sometimes you just have to doff your cap and say, “Fair play.” Which is exactly what we’re doing for this UK-based punter who hit a fantastic 5,174/1 17-fold parlay accumulator on Sunday night.

Watching the results come in must have been an incredibly nail-biting experience for the bettor, who had to endure several late dramas in order to get paid out for his £1 stake.

Among the close shaves were Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Everton, with the punter backing the home team. The bet also required Rennes to beat Nimes, which they eventually did with an 89th-minute winner. Also in Ligue 1, there were nervous moments as PSG tried to hold out against Bordeaux after Neymar’s sending off – the Parisiens clinging on and taking a 4-3 victory there.

In Spain, a 91st-minute Extremadura winner against Mirandes will have had our punter’s heart in mouth, while there was further near-calamity in Portugal, where the selection was Pacos Ferreira to beat Famalicao.

Things looked great for Ferreira until the 89th minute, when Martinez Toni pulled one back for Famalicao, who were then awarded a penalty in the 98th minute. Two men were sent off and our punter was surely cursing his luck at the Ferreira collapse, only for Martinez Toni to miss the penalty and keep the bet alive.

We can only imagine the bettor’s delight at this missed spot-kick, an event that was to repeat itself a few hours later in the same league when Portimonense missed a first half pen to go one-up on Porto, who were required to win in order to clinch the bet. Porto, playing at home, seemed a sure thing before the match but took until the 87th minute to knock in a winner and send our customer into raptures.

What drama, and what a bet. One pound turned into over £5,000 in a day of thrills, spills and what must have been unbearable tension at times. We salute you.
