That trusty source of Wikipedia – and yep, I did donate my fiver – tells me Huntingdon was once the home constituency of the one and only John Major.
Now there’s a new entree to the Huntingdon punting hall of fame – a savvy selector who was bang on the money with a parlay eightfold on the football.
Speaking of money, our man put a quid on his picks at ridiculous odds of 2,048/1. Except it was only ridiculous to me, for I had to chuck £2,049 back into his account come Saturday night.

So, what did our sportsbook punter of the week have?
Northampton were available at 9/2 away at Burton Albion while Derby were 4/1 shots to beat Premier League opposition in Crystal Palace. He had them both.
There were two draws thrown in there too – Spurs vs Middlesbrough (11/4) and Bristol Rovers vs Coventry (5/2).
Then came the straight wins: West Brom to beat Charlton, Sheffield United to see off Fylde, Chelsea to dump out Nottingham Forest and Barnsley to beat Crewe.
Incredibly, against the odds (did I mention it was 2,048/1), they ALL came in leaving our Huntingdon man top of the world.
Our lucky punter’s selections:
Burton 2 Northampton 4 – Northampton to win at 9/2
Bristol Rovers 2 Coventry 2 – Draw at 5/2
Charlton 0 West Brom 1 – West Brom to win at 4/7
Sheffield United 2 AFC Fylde 1 – Sheffield United to win at 1/10
Chelsea 2 Nottingham Forest 0 – Chelsea to win at 2/9
Crystal Palace 0 Derby 1 – Derby to win at 4/1
Crewe 1 Barnsley 3 – Barnsley to win at 11/8
Middlesbrough 1 Tottenham 1 – Draw at 11/4
The incredible win follows on from last week’s double-quick 2,328/1 five-fold racing winner who tore a hole in my pocket.
Happy new year to them – less so for me…
