Gillingham v West Ham: A 7/1 same game multi for Sunday night

Mind that banana skin, David.

Gillingham go up against David Moyes’ West Ham on Sunday evening at 18.16, the Gills have only lost once in their last 12 matches in all competitions while West Ham are walking tall after trouncing Bournemouth 4-0 in Moyes’ return match.

Can the Gills pull off the impossible here or will West Ham blow past them into the next round? We’ve had a look at the stats to find the three best bets for this intriguing FA Cup match.

Gillingham’s record is very impressive and when we look at their home form it’s almost as good, four wins and one draw in their last five at home, seven goals scored and only two conceded and three of those matches saw them keep their opponents scoreless.

West Ham’s away form isn’t great, only two wins in their last five, the three others were all losses. However, against Bournemouth in that 4-0 win they looked like a team with something to prove and here they have a chance to take a step towards Wembley and win some silverware for the first time in, well, ages.

No doubt though, Moyes will rotate and freshen up the team here after a gruelling Christmas period and the fringe players are going to want to give their manager something to ponder.

Gillingham’s home scoring record is good and the Hammers should get at least one here so both teams to score can keep the neutrals happy.

There’s been little to shout about if you’re a West Ham fan this season. Well, no, actually there’s been plenty to shout about, there’s just been very little to shout about positively.

The form of Frenchman Sebastien Haller has been the brightest light with six goals for the Hammers in his 19 league appearances, two of which came over the festive period, one against Bournemouth and another against Southampton.

Haller’s played as the lone striker in West Ham’s last two matches and he’s shown that he can handle that position, bring others into play and add goals as well. When West Ham get forward here they’re going to be looking for the Frenchman to add to that tally.

Of course there’s a massive gulf in class between the Premier League and League One outfits and West Ham have a much better squad on paper. But that ‘better squad’ languish just two points above the relegation zone and Gillingham have that incredible home record of just one loss in their last 12 matches at Priestfield Stadium.

The Gills are going to be fired up for this and they’re worthy of at least the draw here to complete our same game multi.
