Few could have predicted Frank Lampard would take to managing Chelsea quite as quickly as he has – and Steve Sidwell thinks that two unsung heroes are at the heart of it.
The Blues legend has got the club playing an attacking brand of football rivals Manchester United and Tottenham can only dream of.
Former Chelsea midfielder and lifelong fan Steve Sidwell insists he saw it all coming and says mate Lampard is reaping the benefits of surrounding himself with a pair of dugout brains in Jody Morris and Joe Edwards.

“The way Frank is conducting himself as a manager now is superb,” he told Paddy Power News. “It all just feels right at the moment with the team he has assembled in Jody [Morris], Joe Edwards, all the backroom staff.
“It just feels like it’s a got a bit of legs now, a bit of momentum going, and the lads are all on board.
When you’ve got all hands on deck it can only go one way.
“I’m not surprised at all and I think that’s down to the team that he has assembled. He’s gone in there knowing the DNA of the club because he’s one of their greatest ever players.”
Lampard’s success is thanks largely to the performances of the club’s homegrown youngsters. Tammy Abraham has sparkled with nine goals in 11 games, while Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori are now nailed-on starters.
Sidwell believes the chance to learn from the best in the business means the future at Stamford Bridge is bright under Lampard’s leadership.
“Getting Jody and Joe Edwards who worked in the youth team and knowing all about everything below the first team is great because they’ve had to rely on some of those young players,” Sidwell added.
He knows exactly what it takes for a youngster to succeed at that club because he did it himself.
“I’m not surprised by how well he’s taken to management in general, but you could say I’m a bit surprised at how results have gone.
“Look at how Tottenham and Manchester United have struggled. That highlights just how difficult it is. If you speak to the Chelsea fans, they’re optimistic and there’s a real feel-good factor at the moment.”Shoot over to PaddyPower.com now for all the latest football odds
