Sidwell: Tottenham transfers could be done after Kyle Walker phones players

Get Kyle on the blower lads!

Steve Sidwell reckons Tottenham’s biggest stars could be convinced to leave by one of their own former players.

Kyle Walker has become a two-time Premier League champion since ditching north London for the bright lights and big bucks of the Manchester City, while his old team-mates are slumming it with struggling Spurs.

Sidwell says their heads could be turned if someone like Walker tries to convince them to join Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side.

“One of the biggest things was when Kyle Walker left,” he told the Liquid Football podcast, which is produced by JOE in partnership with Paddy Power.

“Everyone still speaks to players after they leave. When he goes and wins the Premier League back to back and gets all the plaudits from Pep, he might get on the phone to them saying: ‘boys, this place is unbelievable, what a gaffer he is.’

“They will know all about the money they can get as well, it could get doubled or quadrupled and they might be thinking ‘I need to get out, I need to get this.’

Sidwell’s fellow Liquid Football guest Jon Walters agreed and asked whether Harry Kane might be the first out the door.

However, Sidwell backed him to ride the wave and claims he is more concerned about breaking Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals.

“I think it’s different with Harry because he’s Spurs through and through,” he added. “He does want to win things but I can’t see him leaving.

He wants to win the Premier League but more than that he wants the record.

“He wants Alan Shearer’s record. Ideally, he wants to win things with Spurs.”

If Kane’s dreams of winning trophies are to become a reality his team need to sort out their worryingly poor form.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have slumped to ninth in the table and are still reeling from consecutive drubbings by Bayern Munich and Brighton. Some reports suggest the players are growing tired of the manager’s methods in training, but Sidwell dismissed that as rubbish and says last year’s run to the Champions League final is proof of that.

“These rumours about the training schedules were not mentioned last season when they were having a good time,” he said.

“I know the league form dipped but there was none of this coming out or the season before that either.”
