Premier League: 4 wonderful wagers for Brighton v Tottenham

Kick-off Saturday’s football with our tips.

Tottenham to win – 10/11

Tottenham appear to be on a mission to perennially outdo themselves when it comes to embarrassments.

Just when you thought things can’t get any worse following a Carabao Cup defeat to League Two Colchester, they go and concede seven at home to a Bayern Munich side that is supposed to be rebuilding.  It’s been a fall from grace from a team that was supposed to kick on following the Champions League final loss to Liverpool.

That Champions League final appearance last season now seems to have been a false dawn and, on further inspection, it’s hardly that surprising. No team in the history of the competition has made the final in luckier circumstances than Spurs did last season.

Mauricio Pochettino’ men simply need a win to prevent their season completely unravelling before the end of October and they should get it against Brighton.

The Seagulls have failed to win since their opening day win over Watford at Vicarage Road and it seems as though that victory was also a false dawn.

Brighton battled gamely enough against Chelsea last weekend, but they look likely to succumb to another defeat on Saturday.

Harry Kane to score anytime – 10/11

It might seem boring and predictable to plumb for Harry Kane to find the back of the net on Saturday, but the England striker’s record speaks for itself.

Kane has been the only Spurs striker to find the net with any kind of regularity this season and were it not for his goals, they would been in an even greater state of despair at present.

He has seven goals in all competitions this season, including one in each of his last four appearances domestically and in Europe.

Kane has scored in both of his two appearances at the Amex since Brighton were promoted in 2017 and is good value to do so again at the weekend.

Over 2.5 goals – 8/11

It’s not an exaggeration to say that teams are finding it laughably easy to score goals against Tottenham at the moment.

Spurs have kept just one clean sheet in their seven Premier League games so far this season, conceding two goals on three separate occasions already. Even Newcastle, who would play 10 players across their defence if they could, scored against them.

Then there are obviously their recent defensive shortcomings in Europe to contend with. Bayern literally walked through them at will at times on Tuesday and it exposed Spurs’ fragility at the back more than ever.

Brighton have not been amongst the goals since their opening day win over Watford – scoring just twice – but even they should fancy their chances against Spurs at the moment. It will be a nervy sort of game for a desperate Spurs and chances are, it won’t be a convincing win if they do get it.

Spurs may have to score twice if they are to come away with a valuable and necessary three points.

Draw/Tottenham – 4/1

Their defeat to Man City aside, Brighton have not been behind in the Premier League at half-time this season. They have made themselves difficult to breakdown and teams have struggled against them in the opening period of games.

With Tottenham under so much pressure to pick up three points, the same thing could transpire on Saturday.

Brighton will sit in and make life difficult for Spurs for as long as possible and it could be after the interval before Spurs make the breakthrough as Chelsea and Southampton have already experienced.
