Wayne Bridge: David Luiz quit Chelsea after Frank Lampard bust-up

Luiz spat the dummy after a rollicking says former Blues man Bridge.

Wayne Bridge has heard David Luiz left Chelsea this summer after a bust-up with manager Frank Lampard.

Luiz moved to Premier League rivals Arsenal in an £8 million deal on deadline day and it looks a decent bit of business after his disastrous start to life at the Emirates.

PlayStation defender Luiz has always had a mistake in him and endured a nightmare afternoon against Liverpool when his lack of pace was woefully exposed by Mohamed Salah.

The Brazilian gave away a penalty and might have got himself sent off as he struggled through the game and looked hopelessly out of place.

Luiz was not much better in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday and was partly at fault for the opening Spurs goal.

Chelsea fans were miffed when his transfer was concluded earlier in the summer but Bridge’s comments might provide them with a bit of a boost as to why it happened.

“From what I’ve heard about the David Luiz situation, he basically dug him out a bit in pre-season because he wasn’t up to scratch,” Bridge told Paddy Power News.

“David obviously didn’t take it too well, so I think Frank will definitely let people know when they are not performing.

“You’ve got to be told sometimes and you’ve got to be able to take it on the chin”.

Bridge also believes Lampard will know when to take a slightly softer approach and says he will have learned from his former managers such as Jose Mourinho.

“Frank has also been with managers when he was the best player in the team and the manager has put their arm around him and made sure he is happy,” he added.

“And he will put his arm around payers and give them a gee-up if they need it and I think he’ll want to get hold of the senior players and make sure everything is alright in the team.

“I’d love to be a fly on the wall and see when he does lose it as he’s always been pretty calm.”
