MNF: A 5/1 same-game-multi that sees Man United devour Wolves

This could be a cracker.

A 4-0 drubbing of Chelsea last week may have flattered the visitors but Wolves will need to be on their ‘A’ game if Man United bring the same sort of energy to Monday night’s fixture.

Here’s a 5/1 same-game-multi that says they will.

Manchester United to win @ 13/10

It’s hard to gauge where United are at after that performance against Chelsea. They could have easily been a goal or two down at half time last time were it not for Chelsea striking the post twice and Kurt Zouma forgetting how to defend.

As devastating as United were on the break in the second half, 4-0 still flattered them. Two quick-fire goals saw the game run away from a young and inexperienced Chelsea side, lacking N’Golo Kante in midfield.

It was far more than most United fans could have hoped for following a dismal transfer window that saw their midfield become even more depleted.

Wolves, on the other hand, already showed signs of lethargy in their opening-day stalemate at Leicester. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were excellent last season without the distraction of regular Thursday night football and it remains to be seen if they can cope with the increased exertion of Europa League football.

Luckily for them, there most recent European game was a home one so they should be right at it on Monday night. However, United looked fresh and galvanised towards the end of the Chelsea game and they will approach this game with great confidence that they can avenge the two defeats they suffered at Molineux last season.

Over 2.5 goals @ 11/10

It feels as though United will need to score twice if they are to win this one. Chelsea regularly carved them open last week and were the width of the post away from punishing a disjointed United defence early on.

Wolves will look to test that defence that is still very much in the settling stage. They are also playing behind a midfield that doesn’t offer much protection. Andreas Pereira and Paul Pogba are attacking players by nature, while Scott McTominay is still finding his feet at the base of the midfield.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both look in good form from the early glimpses we’ve seen and both have shown frightening pace on the break already, so scoring goals shouldn’t be an issue for United.

With any luck, we’ll have a high-scoring and entertaining game for the first Monday night game of the season.

Selection: Over 2.5 goals @ 11/10

Marcus Rashford to score anytime @ 2/1

Rashford ended last season without a goal in nine games as United finished the season with a whimper.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regularly complained about the standard of fitness in the United dressing room and stated his plans to overhaul pre-season fitness practices.

It would appear that he has done that, with United players already running longer distances than they ever did under Mourinho. The change in philosophy appears to have benefited Rashford in particular, who looks to have an extra spring in his step.

His two goals against Chelsea will give him great confidence – specifically his second goal which was beautifully dispatched and was a chance that he would have likely missed last spring. The brace was only his third in the league for United and he now needs to back it up with a regular scoring run.

With United failing to replace Romelu Lukaku, the buck very definitely stops with Rashford and he needs a goal on Monday to show that he is ready to shoulder the responsibility.
