What a time to be alive

Ladies & Gentlemen, grab your Tunnock’s Caramel wafers, your Irn-bru and settle in for a whole new season of Scottish football. 2019/20 is here and it’s going to be a cracker.

With the first group games of the league cup kicking off this weekend, I’m lighting the beacons and letting you all know: We’re back. No more pre-season friendly pish, this is the good stuff we’ve all been waiting for. It’s been a long summer break, with little more than Scotland women’s World Cup campaign to keep us entertained, but Scotland will never let you down and we’ve been planting the patter seeds ready for action.

We’ve already had some competitive games, with all four Scottish clubs winning their respective Europa League qualifiers last week. Yes, that does say all four Scottish clubs won.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to announce ourselves as the greatest footballing nation on the planet at this point.

How’s the Chelsea job going Frank? Good? Happy to hear that. When you’ve got a minute can you post the Europa League trophy up to Glasgow for us? No point wasting any time. Cheers.

Of course with both Old Firm teams playing we’ve already seen the patter flowing too. Rangers beat St Joseph’s 4-0, in what’s probably the most remarkable result in European history. Fans were fully aware of the scale of the triumph however they are focussed on the bigger picture…

Sheyi Ojo appears to be the new Ryan Kent at Rangers as Gerrard again turned to Liverpool for some assistance. It’s great to see that they’ve managed to move on and find someone new after the heartbreak of Kent’s loan ending. I can only hope Ojo fancies punching Scott Brown too, otherwise they might never truly be happy.

What else has been going on? Well Kilmarnock, who also won in Europe this last week, replaced Steve Clarke with a new manager from Juventus. Fair play to them for deciding they’re a European powerhouse after finishing third. Go hard or go home I say, so bravo Kilmarnock. This, of course, means they now get some mad signings too, with the arrival of Juventus goalkeeper Laurentiu Branescu.

Yes, Kilmarnock signed a Juventus player. What a glorious headline.

Talking of European powerhouses, Dick Campbell (my hero) and his Arbroath side have pumped everyone and anyone this pre-season. Hibs, Hearts and Celtic have all fallen to the Smokies, and you have to question if they’re going to be the ones to halt Celtic’s ten-in-a-row? I believe in you, Dick.

Staying in the wonderful land of Angus, have you ever wondered what we do without football? Let me tell you: It’s spend about 500 hours giving the pitch a mad haircut. See below for Brechin’s perfect example of that.

There are lots of questions to be answered over the next ten months. Will Livingston finally give the people what they want and get a bit of pasta as a mascot? Will Dundee Utd ever get out of the Championship? Will Gerrard actually achieve anything? Which club will be first to break the internet with some glorious tweeting?

Stay tuned to find out.
