Survey: More than half of Premier League fans want Liverpool to win title

Meanwhile, 20% of Man United fans would rather their team be relegated than Liverpool lift the trophy

Pep Guardiola Jurgen Klopp

A survey of Premier League football fans has revealed that the United Kingdom is backing Liverpool to win the title over Manchester City.

The nationwide poll, which we commissioned, saw 56% of fans choose Jurgen Klopp’s side over Pep Guardiola’s for the 2018-19 league title.

Though 20% of Manchester United fans surveyed say they’d prefer to see their team be relegated than Liverpool lift the trophy, and 64% would prefer to see their cross-city rivals come out on top this year.

And The Reds can put any paranoia aside, as fans of their upcoming opponents in the title-run all say they would prefer to see a win in Merseyside than Manchester.

In fact, 75% of Huddersfield supporters prefer Liverpool, followed by 64% of Newcastle fans and a whopping 76% of Wolves fans – who they play in their last game of the campaign.

It appears that younger football fans would prefer to see a City win – with 65% of 16-24 year olds voting for them – whereas over half of over 55’s are in the red corner.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “It seems the old Liverpool fan adage of ‘Scouse, Not English’ no longer applies, as survey results reveal the country is behind them in the title race.

“Any paranoid thoughts about teams plotting against them can also be put to bed, as all of their upcoming opponent’s fans say they are hoping Jurgen Klopp can end the 29-year wait.

“And it seems that Manchester is a City United, with all fans cheering on Guardiola. So much so, that one in five United supporters would rather see their team go down than Liverpool win it.”
