Watch: Mario Balotelli ups his celebration game with selfie after scoring

Like most footie fans, we miss seeing Mario Balotelli’s antics on a weekly basis. He kindly reminded us all that he hasn’t changed last night though…

Mario Balotelli once famously wondered ‘why always me’ after scoring in the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford. The answer is because he’s so god damn entertaining.

His spells at Man City and Liverpool were certainly more infamous than glorious, but don’t forget the Italian did set up Sergio Aguero’s astonishing last-second goal to hand The Citizens their first ever Premier League title in May 2012 – so there’s a talented footballer in there too.

These days you’ll find Mario touring around Ligue 1 in France after Liverpool let him join Nice on a free transfer in August 2016. Balotelli boasted a respectable return of 33 goals in 61 league appearances there, but ended up leaving the club during the January window after annoying manager Patrick Vieira so much that he said he’d like to slam the striker against the wall.

Balotelli signed for Marseille in January and seems to be settling in well there, netting three times in his four outings to date and it was his most recent effort against Saint-Etienne that grabbed all the headlines this morning.

Opening the scoring with a lovely karate kick-style goal from a corner was never going to be enough for our Mario – oh no, he was always going to find a way to top that.

Being the maverick that he is, Balotelli asked a nearby cameraman for his phone, in what had to be a pre-planned move. The striker then uploaded the celebrations to his Instagram stories because that’s what the kids are doing these days.

If that wasn’t enough, Mario proved his social media game was completely on point by adding the celebration footage to his Twitter later as well.

He’s never going to change, is he?
