Steve Staunton emerged as a shock contender for the Dundalk vacancy left by Stephen Kenny following his appointment to the Republic of Ireland U21 squad.
The 102-time capped former Ireland gaffer is reported to be interested in taking over at Oriel Park where he spent a short time before joining Liverpool from his home town club as a wee nipper back in 1986.
However, bookmakers Paddy Power don’t like his chances, and Stan is currently a 16/1 shot for the appointment.
A spokesperson for Paddy Power said.
Stan enters the betting as third favourite for the job, but on the face of it, we could be saved from further managerial déjà vu this week as it looks like U-19 coach Mick Neville has this one sewn up.
“He remains the odds-on favourite (1/2) to be tasked with taking up the mantel, while Stephen Kenny’s former number two, Vinnie Perth (5/2), is hot on his heels.”
