Crystal Palace v Liverpool

Liverpool and Both Teams to Score – 6/4

A 4-0 home win over a West Ham side who’ve made a splash with a series of high profile moves show why the Reds’ ambitions are so high.

Merseyside hasn’t seen a season with higher-profile expectations since Sinbad got cosy with Mandy Jordache in Brookie.

What’s Brookie? Ask yer mum.

The Reds’ opponents tonight should put up a sterner challenge than the Hammers though.

The Londoners have a decent record when they play the 18-time league champions. Since Palace returned to the top flight in 2013 they’ve won four of ten encounters and came back to draw 3-3 famously when Brendan Rodgers’s Liverpool side were within striking distance of a title win.

We’d expect Rodgers’ successor Roy Hodgson to have his latest team more disciplined than the Hammers were at Anfield, but Liverpool should still be able to see them off if they’re going to challenge Man City this season.

Correct Score: 1-3 – 8/1

With Liverpool’s attack primed for their assault on the league title, there’s value in looking at higher-priced runners in the correct score market.

Palace have enough going forward to cause some problems, with Wilfried Zaha a budding star, ex-Liverpool striker Christian Benteke out for revenge, and the likes of Jordan Ayew, Andros Townsend and even full-back Patrick van Aanholt capable of doing damage.

Under Klopp, however, the Reds have shown they can overwhelm opponents. Aleksandar Mitrović caused the Eagles back-line difficulties last week, and they’ll have a lot more to deal with tonight. We like Liverpool 3-1 here at 8/1, but would rule out 4-1 at 14/1 for the more ambitious.

Anytime Goalscorer: Sadio Mané – 10/11

The Senegalese can sometimes travel beneath the radar because of the goals of Mohamed Salah and the work-rate of Roberto Firmino, but his pace and ability to finish is crucial to Liverpool’s aspirations.

He’s already off to a flying start this season with two goals last weekend, and enjoyed the pre-season too, with goals against both Manchester clubs in victories.

Palace got a win against Fulham on the opening day, but they were fortunate that goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was in such good form, and that referee Mike Dean didn’t award a penalty for former Reds defender Mamadou Sakho’s challenge on Andre Schurrle. The game could’ve turned out differently with a few breaks going the promoted side’s way.

If Liverpool can get among the goals, Mané is likely to be involved. We’d take the 10/11 available on him to make it three goals in two games.
