Champions League: Hit the back of the net with this 9/1 double

Wednesday could be wonderful if this punt on Europe’s most prestigious club competition lands…

Porto v Liverpool: Liverpool to win (-1) – 10/3

Although Liverpool’s away record in the Champions League is far from stellar, with just two wins in their last seven, injuries and suspension mean they may never find a better time to visit Porto than now.

The Portuguese outfit are already without influential central defender Felipe through suspension, after he saw red against Monaco last time out and there’s also major injury doubt hanging over his centre-back partner Ivan Marcano. Elsewhere, Porto’s top scorer Vincent Aboubakar is also said to be struggling.

Liverpool for their part will be without the banned Emre Can, but otherwise have a full squad to choose from for the trip to the Estádio do Dragão. Matters will have been helped for the Anfield outfit by the relative ease in which they dismissed Southampton on Sunday and you’d expect Jurgen Klopp’s men to be firing on all cylinders come kick-off time.

No team in the Premier League seems to have figured out a way to stop Mohamed Salah finding the net and it’s no wonder the excellent Egyptian is a 9/2 shot for the first goal on Wednesday. However, we reckon The Reds can take advantage of a half-crocked Porto outfit and Liverpool win (-1) goal is not out of the question at 10/3.

Real Madrid v Paris Saint-Germain: Real Madrid to win – 7/5

He made be a French footballing icon, but Zinedine Zidane legend was well and truly made in Madrid after a glittering playing career there.

However, despite historic back-to-back Champions League wins as a manager, Zizou knows bad result against his fellow countrymen Paris Saint-Germain could end an association with Real Madrid that spans all the way back to 2001. With Los Blancos a whopping 17 points behind their greatest Barcelona in La Liga, it’s quite possible that only a third European success on-the-spin is the only option Zidane has to spare himself from the dreaded sack.

A familiar face in the form of Neymar will rock up at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Wednesday, with rumours abound that the Brazilian star is Real Madrid’s top priority in their search for a new ‘galáctico’. However, he’ll know that his current employers have more than enough firepower to leave the Spanish capital with a positive result, having won their last six in-a-row domestically.

Unfortunately for the Parisians, every time they have faced a European heavyweight in the last number of years they’ve failed to land a knock-out blow – just ask Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City. That’s why we are backing Real Madrid to silence the doubts with a victory at 7/5 in mid-week.
