Watch: Aston Villa defender nets calamitous and hilarious own goal

Pick. That. Out!

While they may have been stealing the attention of the football world with a fancy transfer announcement this week off the pitch, the fact is Aston Villa have been doing very well on it.

A topsy-turvy 3-2 victory over Burton Albion at Villa Park today, made it a fourth win on the bounce for Steve Bruce’s men and sent them third in the Championship standings, just a point behind Derby County in the promotion places.

The win is all that matters to fans of the Villains, but for most neutrals today’s contest will be remembered by a moment of utter madness from Villa’s right back Ahmed Elmohamady in the 71st minute. Leading comfortably 2-0 through Scott Hogan and Albert Adomah strikes, Bruce’s men failed to clear a Burton corner and a game of pinball ensued.

Finally, the ball bounced in front of Elmohamady as he faced his own goal. Then, instead of hooking it clear, for some reason the Egyptian proceeded to lash the ball into the top corner of his own net.

Luckily, Jack Grealish popped up two minutes from the end to seal a win, even if Liam Boyce did give them a few nervous moments in time added on. But, it’s Elmohamady’s OG that people will be talking about and you can watch it for yourself, thanks to Channel 5 Sport below:
