Ah, David Moyes. The man who brought so many Manchester United fans misery, while simultaneously bringing joy to every other team around them.
Today, with his former club set to face Newcastle at 5.30pm, a few fans on social media are reflecting one one of his special quotes from his time at Old Trafford.
Picture the scene. The reigning champions had just lost 1-0 to Everton at Old Trafford. They found themselves 12 points behind Arsenal who were at the top of the table in December.
So, what does Moyesy say to inspire his team, knowing they face an upcoming visit from Newcastle? A side who, in the previous season, they have finished 48 points ahead of. Well, this is what he said:
“Newcastle are coming to Old Trafford and we are going to make it as difficult for them as we possibly can.”
You can imagine how well that went down…
Anyway, we’re now in 2017. Moyes has just taken over at West Ham. Jose Mourinho is still angry, but has United at second place in the league. That famous quote has resurfaced on Twitter as a timely reminder of what could have been… And it’s getting some funny reactions:
