Watch: American pundit goes into meltdown after World Cup failure

To be fair to him, it was embarrassing for the US…

Last night, the United States shamefully slumped to defeat to already eliminated Trinidad and Tobago meaning that they’ll miss out on being at the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

The US started the night in pole position to make it to Russia 2018 and only needed a draw secure at least a play-off place.

However, an own goal from Omar Gonzalez and an Alvin Jones strike condemned Bruce Arena’s men to a devastating loss in Port-of-Spain. Worst was to come, as news filtered through of an unlikely win over Mexico for Honduras and a controversial Panama victory which sent the US tumbling into football’s abyss.

The exit is rightly being view as a huge embarrassment for US Soccer given the amount of money pumped into the national association and it all became a little too much for pundit Taylor Twellman as he set about analysing the impact of the defeat after the game.

Twellman, who was capped 30 times for the States, had to let it all out and did just that on ESPN last night describing the result as an “utter embarrassment”.

“Every single one of those players? (They’ll have) Nightmares for the rest of their lives because this is an utter embarrassment,” said the pundit.

“If this failure does not wake up everyone from U.S. Soccer to Major League Soccer, from ‘pay to play’ to broadcasters, then we’re all insane because the definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing knowing the result.

We won’t ruin the rest of the rant for you, but at one stage he does get really angry at his phone for no reason to top it all off. Check it out for yourself below:
