Surviving by the seat of his genes? Strachan odds-on to stay, Moyes favourite to replace him if he goes

Strachan is on the brink of being binned off - but could genetic modification save him?

Scotland’s near-miss on the World Cup qualification play-offs has left manager Gordon Strachan teetering on the brink of dismissal – though his superior genetics should help him survive, with our traders making it odds-on (8/11) he remains in charge at the start of the next qualifying campaign.

With his contract expiring, and the nation torn over whether they like Wee Gordon or not, someone with a more universal reaction is in pole position to replace him should he go – David Moyes at 17/10.

Alex McLeish, who was popular during his own term in charge of the Tartan Army, is 4/1 – while Paul Lambert and Malky Mackay (both 6/1) are also in contention.

Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill (10/1) has been continually linked with the job, while Sir Alex Ferguson is a surprisingly short price (12/1) given his cushty retirement gig at Manchester United.

Spokesman Paddy Power said:

After a failed qualifying process, it looks like time for Gordon Strachan to say Tar-tartan.

“If the results weren’t unconvincing enough, his latest rant about genetics means he’s Scot to go – though, given the alternatives, you could understand why the SFA might offer him a new contract. And, Strachan being Strachan, you could well imagine him turning it down.

“David Moyes is our favourite to be next Scotland boss, which would be a choice about as inspiring as some of the football Strachan’s side played earlier in the qualifying process.”
